In 2002, we took Toothpick from San Francisco Bay to San Diego, Ca. and joined the Baha fleet down the coast of California and Mexico to Cabo, and then on to Puerto Vallarta, Mx.
Toothpick has been burthed in Puerto Vallarta, Mx. since then.
WE have taken her to Zihauntaneo to the South, and Mazatlan to the North and also local three day trips from Puerto Vallarta, but she has stayed in Puerto Vallarta during hurricane season, parked behind a six story residence.
We seldom get big winds at this location.
The marina is Paradise Village Marina, and its features can be found on the internet at: Paradise Village Marina, Nuevo Vallarta, Mx.
It’s a great marina, well managed, and well funded.
We have the use of the entire property as slip renters, the swimming pools, resturants, bars, etc. and the ability to pay with our slip account.
There is great bus service here in Puerto Vallarta, and a very close airport, only 15 minutes away.
We have used Toothpick as a floating condo; we use Bandaris Bay (the bay surrounding Puerto Vallarta), to go to several anchorage spots, some a bit rolly, and others great.
Bandaris Bay is a great sailing venue, with afternoon winds predicted in and around 20 knots., with evenings and mornings still.
Fishing and scuba diving is abundant here, but scuba diving is not world class.
My philosophy regarding the sale of this vessel is one of sharing.
I have spent 20 plus years installing, and fixing many of the features of Toothpick.
I have tended to use a personal approach to sale, rather than turn it over to a broker, and not be able to share my experiences with mechanical issues on board.
I will remain in contact with the new owner for as long as the new owner sees fit.
I will still be coming to Puerto Vallarta and staying locally, so I will be able to assist with any issues.
I am mechanically minded, and have designed Toothpick as such.
That might mean, changing a belt for “at anchor” refrigeration, or doing a procedure with redundancy in mind.
It might be helpful for the new owner to be a mechanical minded person.
Toothpick has a shoal draft keel; as such because of her weight, she is NOT a performance sailboat.
But on the other hand, she does not get pushed around.
Her gross weight is 24 tons.
We have relatively new sails, both the main and 125% head sail have been replaced in the last five years.
I also have an gale sail, used in San Francisco Bay area on those windy summer months.
It moves Toothpick along at hull speed, which is about 6.5 knots.
We also have a genniker in a sock, which we have used very little.
Other features: 4.0 kw generator diesel 15 mile radar Garmin small chart plotter Vhf radio and extra emergency antennae Heart interface battery monitoring system Water maker, but the membrane needs to be replaced.
About $300 dollars.
